Poker.com
- site info:
Summary:
Launched in May 2005, Poker.com is a
fresh, independent poker room making a serious stab at the online
poker market (they certainly have a great name for doing just that).
The software is decent but needs a few updates to be completely
satisfactory. The player volume is not great but still surprisingly
good given that they are a stand alone room just starting out in the
business. Poker.com does not have a lot of game variety yet, with
only Texas Hold'em and Omaha High offered. There are quite a few
high value promotions at Poker.com, most notably they offer a
$20,000 weekly freeroll. Poker.com currently has 600-700 ring game
players at peak hours and 1,100-1,200 tournament players (June,
2006).
Software and Graphic:
Poker.com software and player base is unique as they've built their
own software and network. The graphics are nice and clear and the
functionality is good. Poker.com offers lobby music, instant hand
histories, win statistics, note taking support, and the option to
tag players as, for example, "sharks" or "fish." An overview of the
site is easily obtained in the lobby, which displays stats such as
average pot, hands player per hour, and viewed flop percentage. On
the negative side, there are some small glitches making the
playability less than perfect although the playing tempo is still
decent. When traffic has been built up and some software updates are
done, this will be a quite nice room to play at.

Ring Games Traffic:
Poker.com currently has 600-700 ring game players at peak hours
(June, 2006).
Tournaments Traffic:
In May, 2006, the traffic at tournaments is higher than at cash
games, where real money traffic can reach somewhere between
1,100-1,200 players at peak hours, June, 2006. The free rolls are
heavily promoted and offer generous cash prizes.
Rake:
The rake at Poker.com is actually better than industry standard. The
general policy is the customary 5% rake taken in increments of up to
$3. But on several types of tables there are lower max rakes. On
fixed limit tables from $0.10/$0.20 there is no rake. More
importantly, all tables with 2-3 players from $2/$4 and up have a
max rake of $1, 4-5 player tables have a $2 max rake, and 6-10
player tables have a $3 max rake. No-limit and pot-limit games have
a 5% rake with a max of $1 for 2-3 handed, $2 for 4-5 handed, and $3
for 6-10 handed games. There is a "no flop - no drop" policy for
hands not reaching the flop.
Loyality Bonus:
They use a player point system called "Comp Points". Points are
earned by playing in real money ring games and tournaments. The
points are awarded in "blocks" after 15 consecutive hands have been
played. The amount of points for each "block" varies between 45-150
depending on what stakes you play. For NL Holdem:
150 points on $0.5/$1 and up. 75 points on $0.25/$0.50 and up. 45
points on $0.10/$0.25 and up. Also a refer-a-friend program exists
where you can earn $50 in bonus per referred friend as soon as they
have deposited money and played 100 raked hands. The referrer will
also be eligible to participate in a free roll tournament.
